Journal -- Day 20 -- Additional Photos

Bill and Barbara Windsor's trip 'Round America covered 50 states and over 2,500 towns.
This Daily Journal provides the daily itinerary and captures experiences, observations, towns, sights, and more.

Valley of Fires -- Lava flows cause this black rock which causes the land in these parts to appear to have been burned by fire. Cadillac on blocks with all four wheels missing.  50 miles from nowhere.  I guess thieves are everywhere. Datil.  So relieved to see a gas station...but then I saw the Closed sign in the window.
Continental Divide is near Pie Town. A sight for sore eyes -- literally. City Limit sign for Pie Town.  The sign maker screwed up, but the town of 65 accepted the sign anyway.
The story of how Pie Town got its name. This is what today's trip was all about -- eating pie in Pie Town, New Mexico. But the sign on the door says Closed!
Fortunately, they let me in. Kim Bruck is the owner of the Pie-O-Neer Cafe in Pie Town. Pie Town does have a post office!  Population 65.
You gotta be kidding.  A town of 65 people has an attorney.  Yuck. Imagine seeing this sign on this day at the J & Y Auto Service Center. If the gas station had been closed, I could have spent the night at the lovely Alegre Motel & Apartments.
J & Y Auto Service -- GAS --
Just $2.89 a gallon.
Robert -- the man who saved the day. Big flag on a Quemado porch.
Scenery near Quemado. Patriotism is not measured by the size of one's flag. Mailbox "array" near Cruzville.
Canyon near Apache Creek. Elk Crossing sign near Reserve. Looks like a junkyard from a distance, but I believe this is a "junk" artist as the junk included classic cars and more.
Sunset in Reserve. Sunset near Cruzville. Sunset in Reserve.

White knuckle drive from Silver City to Truth or Consequences. View to the right as I hugged the yellow line of the narrow two-lane mountain road. Driving one-eyed at that.
